FÓMEQUE, a place to discover
Municipality of the department of Cundinamarca (Colombia), located in the Province of Oriente, 56 km from Bogotá. Fómeque means: "forest of the foxes" in the Chibcha language. It was founded in 1593 by Don Miguel de Ibarra, Oidor of the New Kingdom, accompanied by his interpreter Juan Lara.
Fómeque, is a territory that produces water and is rich in biodiversity, in which the National Natural Park of Chingaza is located, a place of incomparable water richness, beautiful landscapes and great diversity in flora and fauna.
Its altitudinal diversity offers a variety of climates and landscapes. From 22ºC from the town center "La Unión" where the Blanco River meets the Río Negro, up to 10ºC we find in the Páramo de Chingaza, home of the Andean Bear and the Uribei friar, an endemic species considered a natural treasure of the region, It offers its visitors a journey full of magic and nature.
The municipality of Fómeque is located 56 kilometers from Bogotá DC in the central sector of the country, east of the department of Cundinamarca, on the western side of the Chingaza National Park, on the western side of the Chingaza National Park, it is part of the hydrographic slope of the Orinoco. It has an area of 55,565 hectares. of which 27,148 are declared as a national park representing 49% of its territory, where it houses the most important protected wild area of the Department of Cundinamarca and one of the ecosystems that produces the greatest economic benefits to the country, generating more than 14m3 of drinking water per second, 15% of the country's hydroelectric power plus a host of environmental benefits. Due to its mountainous terrain, it is possible to find heights that range between 800 and 4,000 m.s. contemplating varied ecosystems with a valuable diversity in flora and fauna.

It is composed of 32 lanes and a population of 12,400 inhabitants, whose main economic activity is the agricultural sector, making Fómeque a central agent in the dynamics of regional agricultural production, playing an important role in the supply of food and raw materials, mainly untied fruit and vegetable production (beans, tree tomatoes, common cucumbers, beans, peas, citrus fruits and potatoes), flowers and carnation cuttings, and in the livestock sector poultry and livestock, developed mainly in smallholdings.

THEIR ECONOMY
Fómeque is a prosperous town that bases its economy on agriculture and poultry activity, being the first egg producer in the department of Cundinamarca and a large food pantry for the region.
Its industrious people cultivate products such as snap beans, tomatoes, cucumbers and paprika, among other products of the countryside, highlighting the conservation of traditional crops such as sago, which constitutes, with its dough, a representative aspect of the food culture of the peoples of eastern Cundinamarca.
